Why Keanu Reeves’ Girlfriend Alexandra Grant Doesn’t Want to Dye Her Gray Hair

Keanu Reeves’ girlfriend, Alexandra Grant, is explaining her hair choice.

The 46-year-old artist was thrust into the spotlight after she and 55-year-old Reeves held hands and posed on the red carpet together at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles last month, with Grant looking gorgeous in a navy blue gown. While many fans were happy that the notoriously private Reeves stepped out publicly with Grant, some couldn’t stop talking about her gray hair — or that she looked a lot like 74-year-old Helen Mirren.

On Wednesday, according to an unverified Instagram account linked to Grant with over 67,000 followers, Grant discussed her hair choice. She shared a Newsweek headline reading, “Breast Cancer Linked to Permanent Hair Dye and Chemical Hair Straighteners in Study of Almost 50,000 Women,” and said that her hair had actually turned gray in her 20s. She also pointed out how “beauty standards” for women can be potentially harmful.

“Today’s news… The numbers are staggering, especially for womxn of color,” Grant wrote. “I went gray prematurely in my early 20’s… and dyed my hair every color along the way until I couldn’t tolerate the toxicity of the dyes any more. In my 30’s I let my hair turn ‘blonde.'”

“I love and support that every womxn can choose how she wants to look at every age,” she continued. “But/and, if womxn are perishing from beauty standards… then let’s talk about those beauty standards. Love to all womxn!”

The internet has had strong reactions to Grant, given Reeves’ recent resurgence in popularity thanks to his respectful ways and viral interviews. A lot of fans have praised Reeves for being in an “age-appropriate” relationship.

“Of course Keanu has an age-appropriate girlfriend. He is a Good Man,” one fan tweeted.

Meanwhile, another fan tweeted, “I love Keanu and agree that who he’s dating is refreshing and age appropriate but lol that Hollywood’s conditioned us to see a 55yo man and a 46yo woman as the same age.”

Last month, ET spoke to Mirren at The Good Liar premiere, and she talked about some fans at first mistaking Grant for her.

“I saw that,” Mirren said. “That was very flattering on me, you know, because she’s obviously lovely.”

“I do know Keanu very well,” she added. “He did a film with my husband [1997’s The Devil’s Advocate] and he is just the most adorable, lovely person. So she’s a lucky girl and I’m sure that he’s a lucky boy.”
