White House Lockdown Caused By False Alarm: Reports

WASHINGTON, DC — The White House was placed on lockdown for a brief period Tuesday morning after an airspace violation, but reports indicate it may have been a false alarm.

Fighter jets were scrambled and the White House was locked down due to a violation of the restricted airspace in the National Capital Region. A U.S. Police spokesperson told Patch that the aircraft entered the airspace at around 8:27 a.m., and the situation was cleared at around 9:12 a.m.

“In an abundance of caution, the USCP began monitoring the situation for any potential threats, and as a result, access to Capitol Complex buildings was restricted for a short time,” the spokesperson said.

However, reports indicate that a “blip” on the radar was all that authorities ever saw, and no one ever found the supposed aircraft.

Just in. There was NO plane that violated Washington D.C. restricted airspace this morning. It was a false alarm. @wusa9 https://t.co/xgHnUdUy4S
