‘Tiger King of Mexico’ lassos big cat on surburban street

A cowboy has been hailed the “Tiger King of Mexico” after lassoing a big cat that was running wild on a suburban street.

Extraordinary video filmed by motorists showed the tiger roaming along a pavement next to a chain-link.

Three men approached it, one carrying a fold up chair to defend himself.

But he stood aside as another man in a cowboy hat, denim jeans and polka-dot shirt, casually jogged up.

The man, who has not been named, expertly twirled a rope over his head, and lassoed the tiger around the neck at the first attempt.

Motorists filming from feet away in Jalisco, Guadalajara, gasped as the cowboy dug his heels in and was pulled along by the tiger.

A video posted on Facebook has been watched more than one million times

One woman on the video can be heard exclaiming in Spanish: “It’s a tiger!” Another says: “My God. How are they going to catch it?”

What happened to the animal, and the cowboy, is unknown. By the time police got there they were gone.

Local officials said it was believed the tiger had escaped from a private residence nearby.
