Two shootings this past weekend in the District left three people injured, including two children, and one teenager dead.

A father and his two children were waiting at a bus stop in Southeast in the 800 block of Southern Avenue late Saturday night when a drive-by shooting occurred. All three sustained gunshot wounds to their feet and were taken to the hospital. The 3-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl have since been released from the hospital where their father still remains in stable condition.

A woman whose house was near the scene of the crime reported to police that her living room window had broken as a result of the shooting. Police have begun an investigation but have not yet identified a suspect. They are currently looking for a dark colored sedan with tinted windows that was seen driving westbound on Southern Avenue, S.E. around midnight.

District of Columbia Council member Trayon White (D- Ward 8) responded to the shooting on early Sunday morning saying, “This is inhumane and as men we have to draw the line on these wild youngins,” he wrote on Instagram. “This makes me angry and my heart sick.”

Police are also investigating another Southeast shooting that occurred Sunday evening.

At around 6:58 pm police responded to reports of a shooting in the 3400 block of 13th Place S.E. Police arrived to the scene to find 18-year-old Ja’Vontay Brown unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds.

Emergency responders transported Brown to the hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Officers have not yet identified a suspect in Brown’s homicide.

Police are asking anyone with any information regarding the two cases to contact the Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099 or use their tip line by sending a text to 50411.
