‘It’s the Jerry Springer Show’: Trump responds to Dunn family after failed Oval Office meeting

President Donald Trump on Wednesday put his own spin on a thwarted effort to introduce the parents of 19-year-old British motorcyclist Harry Dunn, Tim Dunn and and Charlotte Charles, to Anne Sacoolas, the diplomat’s wife who is accused of hitting and killing their son.

Donald Trump on the Dunn family meeting:
“I offered to bring the person in question (Anne Sacoolas) in, and they weren’t ready for it. I spoke with Boris, he asked me if I’d do that, and I did it….unfortunately when we had everybody together they decided not to meet.”

Pres Trump said the parents of the British teen, Harry Dunn, were “desperately sad” over their loss. He said he expressed condolences on behalf of the US. He said they decided they would only meet with Sacoolas in the UK.

Graeme Demianyk, senior editor at HuffPost UK, described the situation as “a mess,” which by all accounts, is the case; Last Wednesday, Trump defended Sacoolas at a press conference, describing the situation as a “terrible accident” and saying drivers have to “be careful” when driving on “opposite roads.”

“I won’t say it ever happened to me, but it did,” he continued according to HuffPost. “When you get used to one system and then you’re all of a sudden on the other system where you’re driving, it happens. You have to be careful.”

Josh Campbell, a CNN law enforcement analyst described the incident as “really something.”

This is really something: The story of a planned White House reality TV-style moment introducing a grieving family to the person who killed their son. Opening an Oval Office side door would be part of the big reveal.

The meeting did not go as planned. https://t.co/AsFmfnoPTh
