With a dazzling performance from starter Anibal Sanchez, the Washington Nationals beat the St. Louis Cardinals 2-0 in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Friday.
Now, Washington begins its barrage of aces with Max Scherzer taking the mound for Game 2 at Busch Stadium on Saturday afternoon. St. Louis managed just one hit in Friday night’s game and were held hitless until there were two outs in the eighth.
The Nationals can take a commanding lead in the series as they seek to reach the World Series for the first time in franchise history.

With the chance to go ahead 2-0, Scherzer (11-7, 2.92 ERA) gets the ball for Washington. Scherzer has pitched 13 innings in this postseason, giving up four earned runs with 19 strikeouts, including a win in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Dodgers.
St. Louis turns to veteran Adam Wainwright (14-10, 4.19 ERA), who pitched 7 ⅔ shutout innings in Game 2 of the NLDS against the Braves. In 96 ⅔ career postseason innings, Wainwright has a 2.79 ERA.
