Democratic debate: Tulsi Gabbard’s sister jumps to her defense on Twitter, criticizes MSNBC

WASHINGTON – Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s Twitter account defended her on Wednesday evening during the Democratic presidential debate, saying that MSNBC favored Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.

“It’s clear who MSNBC wants to be president: Elizabeth Warren. They’re giving her more time than all the other candidates combined. They aren’t giving any time to Tulsi at all. -V (Tulsi’s sister),” read the tweet from the Hawaii Democrat’s Twitter account.

The tweets appear to be coming from Vrindavan Gabbard, the representative’s sister.

The Hawaii State Legislature website of Tulsi’s father, State Sen. Mike Gabbard, notes that Tulsi has four other siblings, including Vrindavan Gabbard, who Politico reports plays a role on her campaign. Occasionally tweets from Tulsi’s account appear signed “V,” and sometimes with the qualifier “Tulsi’s sister.” Vrindavan Gabbard, according to New York magazine, has spoken for her sister from the time they were kids.

On Wednesday, social media users noted the connection. Vrindavan Gabbard, according to New York magazine, has spoken for her sister from the time they were kids.

The tweets referred to what she saw as unequal speaking times allotted to every candidate during the debate. According to the New York Times, Gabbard spoke for about 6 minutes and 39 seconds during the debate, putting her in the bottom third of speaking lengths during the debate. Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J. spoke the longest out of the candidates, speaking for 11 minutes and 6 seconds. Warren spoke for 9 minutes and 31 seconds, the Times said.

Vrindavan Gabbard appears to have tweeted from Tulsi’s account before and has also been a critic of the media in the past while posting from Tulsi Gabbard’s Twitter account.

Earlier Wednesday evening, a tweet from Gabbard’s account signed “V” criticized Meghan McCain for posting and then deleting a tweet about Tulsi. The tweet said, “Meghan displayed a moment of courage to tweet this out before deleting it. Tulsi’s lived a lifetime of courage – and she won’t cave to establishment pressure.”

In April, a tweet from Gabbard’s account rail against “typical MSM anti-Tulsi policy,” a reference to what she saw as “mainstream media” bias against Tulsi.

The New Yorker reported that Tulsi and Vrindavan live together in Washington, D.C., where Vrindavan reportedly works as a U.S. Marshall.
