Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees top Forbes’ annual list of most valuable sports teams

Forbes released its annual list of the top 50 most valuable sports teams Monday, and the teams leading the pack shouldn’t come as much of a shock.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable team in sports ($5 billion). The New York Yankees ($4.6 billion) climbed into the No. 2 spot after placing fifth last year. Spanish soccer franchises Real Madrid ($4.2 billion) and Barcelona ($4 billion) checked in at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. The New York Knicks rounded out the top five as the NBA’s most valuable club ($4 billion).

Of the 50 teams on the list, 26 were NFL franchises. The NBA has nine teams on the list, and MLB placed seven clubs on it. No NHL team made the cut.

Manchester United, the New England Patriots, the Golden State Warriors, the Los Angeles Lakers, the New York Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers all made the top 10.

Per Forbes, the list is based on the company’s valuations of the franchise that are based on enterprise values (equity plus debt) and current stadium deals.
