‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’: Stephen Amell Reacts to Oliver Queen’s Shocking Fate (Exclusive)

Rest in peace, Oliver Queen.

You read that right. At the end of Sunday night’s episode of Supergirl — aka the Part 1 of the highly anticipated “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover — Oliver Queen chose to fight until his death in order to save billions of humans and aliens alike from being erased from existence on Earth-38.

In order to help you cope with this super-sized loss, ET caught up with the Green Arrow himself, actor Stephen Amell, for an exclusive interview on this crossover “twist” and how he really feels about Oliver Queen’s shocking fate.

“Oh, I was really excited because I didn’t see it coming. And if I don’t see something coming…” the 38-year-old actor shared with an all-knowing look. “I thought of all the different scenarios that we would sort of end Oliver’s journey.”

It’s no secret that Oliver’s life was in danger. Arrow fans have been dreading this moment ever since The Monitor came to collect in the season 7 Arrow finale, promising the show’s titular hero, “I have seen your future, Oliver. Inexorable and unavoidable. I have watched you die.”

“We had, frankly, promised people that we were going to end it,” Amell noted, “I feel like people were looking for a twist, because we’ve been so straightforward about the fact that Oliver does not survive ‘Crisis,’ but we were just telling the truth. So, from that standpoint, I was excited.”

In Sunday night’s episode, a bloodied and bruised Oliver passed away while surrounded by a few of his best friends — Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) and Kara Danvers (Melissa Benoist) — as well as his heartbroken daughter, Mia (Katherine McNamara).

“Doing your own death scene is not a lot of fun,” Amell said of filming his final scene. “I thought about Colin O’Donnelland Susanna Thompsonand the myriad of people on our show that have died, but there was just sort of that finality.”

“And the number of characters that were around me,” he recalled. “I distinctly remember looking at Melissa when it was my coverage and not hers, and she was crying, so it was really sad. It was really sad. Got a lot of hugs from people after the scene was over. ”
