Air NZ launches pilot recruitment

Air New Zealand looks to populate the cockpits of its turboprop fleet in 2020. Company has put a call out for budding pilots.

An ad posted on the airline’s website says entry into the career begins at first officer level and can be based in one of many regional towns around Aotearoa.

“Whether you are looking for a career flying props or a pathway to our jet fleet, this is a great point of entry,” the posting says.

“As a first officer flying a Dash 8 Q300 or an ATR, you will play a pivotal role in flying our customers to their destinations for work, business, family or pleasure.”

As well as holding a series of licenses and certificates, applicants must have level six english language proficiency, be entitled to work permanently in New Zealand, and be able to swim 50m in under two minutes.

Anyone with a foreign license which could potentially be converted to a New Zealand-approved licence can also apply.

Air NZ currently operates 23 ATR 72 – 600s, with six more on order, as well as six of the older ATR 72 – 500s and 23 Bombardier Q300s, often referred to as the ‘Dash-8’.

These turboprop aircraft carry between 50-70 passengers and operate to regional airports such as those in Tauranga, Rotorua, New Plymouth, Palmerston North and Napier.
