Detroit Red Wings players were upset Saturday night when teammate Anthony Mantha was hurt while thrown to the ice by Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin.
Mantha got tangled up with Muzzin, who grabbed the Red Wings forward by the head and threw him to the ice.
Mantha’s head hit the ice hard and he looked groggy as he was helped off with 1:55 left in regulation of a 4-1 Maple Leafs win.
“I think the league really need to look at that,” said Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin. “A wrestling move can’t be in the game like that. There’s no defense to that.
“It’s very scary. Hopefully, he’s OK.”
Muzzin received two minutes for roughing and two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct.
“That’s really scary,” Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said of the Mantha injury. “I just hope he’s all right here. He’s going to be out tomorrow.”
