Metropolitan Police Department detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division arrested two suspects in two separate attempted unarmed bank robberies that took place earlier this week in Brentwood and Benning, according to police releases.

The first attempted robbery occurred Tuesday, March 17, around 6:07 p.m., when a suspect entered a bank in the 900 block of Rhode Island Avenue, N.E., and tried to take money. Unsuccessful in his attempt, he was apprehended by responding officers. MPD arrested Paul Martin, 49, of Northeast, charging him with robbery.

In the second case, officers arrested Brian Thomas, 31, of Southeast, and charged him with robbery in connection with an attempted robbery of the Bank of America in the 3800 block of Minnesota Avenue, N.E.
