19 New Coronavirus Deaths In DC; Total Positive Cases Near 5,900

WASHINGTON, DC — The D.C. Health Department confirmed 19 new deaths Friday due to COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of coronavirus deaths in the District to 304.

D.C. Health also confirmed 245 new positive COVID-19 cases, bringing the overall total to 5,899.

The new deaths in the District are described as:

49-year-old male50-year-old male57-year-old male64-year-old male69-year-old male71-year-old male72-year-old female75-year-old male76-year-old male76-year-old male76-year-old male79-year-old female80-year-old male86-year-old male86-year-old male87-year-old male93-year-old female96-year-old female96-year-old female

D.C. Health has confirmed that as of Thursday morning 25,856 District residents have been tested for the coronavirus and 808 have recovered. Contact tracing investigations are focused positive cases tied to health care workers and first responders, senior care facilities, correctional and detention centers, childcare facilities and facilities serving homeless individuals.

Globally, more than 3.8 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 264,000 people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Monday morning. In the U.S., more than 1.2 million people have been infected and over 75,000 people have died from COVID-19.
